 the evolution of the poem

Picture
This book concerns itself with the evolution of the development of the book, Self-portrait as Exuviation,  I was interested both in documenting Dean's process of writing the poem, as well as my studies for the visual interpretation of the poem.

Dean’s first draft of the poem emerged while waiting his turn at an eye doctor’s office. He wrote notes in pencil on the doctor’s writing pad. Four versions on the computer followed before the poem reached its final state.

The early pages of this book highlight the poem’s evolution, from Dean’s hand written words to the final poem. A visual guide identifies the stages. The final pages of the book are my visual studies of the poem and include images inspired by Jonas Burgert’s work.
