Words for Peace Installations
The Words for Peace project was initially shown at the San Francisco Public Library in 2003, as a part of Kalligraphia X, an exhibition of work by the Friends of Calligraphy membership. The installation was a collaboration by Thomas Ingmire, Betsy Raymond and Kazumi Atsuta (and of course the more than 750 persons from 28 nations who contributed works).
The Canessa Gallery exhibition in San Francisco occurred in 2007. The installation was designed by Akiho Sugiyama. Along with her, Thomas Ingmire, Kazumi Atsuta, Betsy Raymond, and Thomas Sturm contributed to the installation. With the help of many others, including Kiyoe, Masumi, Mika (with husband) and Takako, more than one thousand paper cranes were folded for the installation. The largest installation occurred at the Fresno Art Museum in Fresno California in 2008. At the time of this show, over 1000 persons from 35 nations had contributed works. The installation was again designed by Akiho Sugiyama with enormous contributions by Kasumi Atsuta and Thomas Ingmire. |
